A House of Endless Hide-and-Seek

This residence is a rare gem in the real estate market—a single-floor home with its own private entrance, underground garage, and workspace. Upon purchase, the homeowners opted to cancel the developer’s pre-planned partitions, allowing the design to begin from a blank slate.

The architecture is defined by a continuous flow: a U-shaped outdoor garden wraps around the front, side, and rear of the house, while an interior U-shaped circulation path connects the different rooms within. These dual loops—one outside, one in—interweave to create a seamless, cyclical experience of movement.

New interior walls were placed at the center of the layout, guided by the principle that “the path defines the place.” The gentle turns and detours of the circulation route preserve a sense of discovery and spatial intrigue, avoiding predictability and instead inviting moments of pause and transition. This approach safeguards the integrity of each “place”—allowing for both privacy and stability within the home.

Each area can be closed off with flexible partitions for independent use or opened up to create a continuous, unified space.

The photos were taken three years after move-in. Over time, the house has grown into a reflection of the residents’ refined tastes and meaningful collections. Everywhere you look, traces of daily life reveal depth and intention. Within this home, one can always sense the presence of the other—yet there is also space to retreat and be alone.
